A LITTLE ATTENTION GOES A LONG WAY

A LITTLE ATTENTION GOES A LONG WAY

Miss Boshra Fallatah at Future Experts Kindergarten shares her experience of a reserved, unexposed boy…

*Ahmad skipped KG1 and joined KG2 immediately. Unlike other kids, he was a little reserved, and why wouldn’t he be? He didn’t know the alphabet like other KG1 kids and didn’t have the social skills either – he never sat in a classroom and interacted with other kids. I knew instantly that Ahmad would require a little extra attention.

At times we assume the child knows certain things by the time he’s at a certain age. It’s not right to make these assumptions. I decided I had to give Ahmad a quick overview of everything KG1 students are taught as well as keep him up to date with what other kids in KG2 were learning.

It was double the energy and attention but it was worthwhile when I saw the changes in Ahmad and how fast he picked up the skills.

I started from scratch. First, we learned the alphabet followed by nursery rhymes. He was reserved and reluctant at first but when given extra attention, he responded and excelled.

By the end of the term, Ahmad was up to date with everything he had missed and was learning new things every day with the rest of the class.

We make the mistake of ignoring such children thinking they may be slow and may not be able to grasp on to topics fast, but Ahmad proved that when given a chance, these children can pick up on everything fast.

It’s all about a little extra care and attention!
